This year Blueworld is sponsoring a number of UCT RAG initiatives. One of the most significant are the RAG Rookies, 107 first year “freshers” that will be attending all of the main UCT RAG events. Below a photo of the kit the Rookies will be wearing to all of these events. Needless to say tremendous exposure for Blueworld

Cape Tech is the first BlueWorld group to reach 1000 members, followed closely by “Blueworld members against Xenophobic attacks“. We are in the process of building out the university groups into networks which will allow for greater customization and creation of smaller communities within a specific group.

We are proud to announce the launch of Speakerbox.co.za a collaboration between BlueWorld Communities and 24.com. A big thank you to Vincent, Niekie and Foxinni for their tireless effort in getting this website up on time to launch at Oppikoppi at the beginning of the month.
Speakerbox is a cocktail of content contributed by the 24.com editorial team and user generated content contributed by the artists and fans that join the social network on www.blueworld.co.za/bands.
If you are at all interested in the local music scene then you will be a huge fan of what Speakerbox has to offer.

I’m wondering whether it’s possible to create a social network around a brand. How far does brand association go? Would people create a profile on a Adidas or Ferrari social network? Do some brands lend themselves more than others? Is it less about the brand and more about the association? Should one rather build the network around sports fanatics or performance vehicles and rather build a media association with the brands? These are questions we ask ourselves amidst juggling conflicting business models.
Personally i think it’s about an emotional attachment to a specific niche. We all have facebook and BlueWorld profiles, but the niche networks will appeal to a specific emotional attachment as the niche says something about who you are. The key is to first identify an appropriate niche and to then build the network in such a way that it forms an extension and added value to an already existing group of people bound by a specific interest.

I write this first post at a time that couldn’t be more crucial for our business. Its half past nine on a Monday night and im searching the net to get a better understanding of the American market for one of our web properties that we are looking to launch there. At the same time we are busy breaking through walls at our new offices on long street where we have only been for 4 weeks. The expansion is necessary due to the 3 new resources that we are taking on. Basically business is booming, our two primary websites blueworld and zoopedup are growing through the roof in every way and there is an abundance of excitement at the BW HQ office. I’ll try to keep these posts up to date by posting news on a daily basis.
